Overview: Training the dogs (and their owners)

Roxanne Lee, a newcomer to Applewoods Dog Training, started in February 2010, with her 9 1/2 – week old Lab puppy, Sugar, for basic dog obedience training. She quickly became enthusiastic about the outstanding results with Sugar, so took what she learned and applied the dog training to her other two dogs, Red (Sugar’s dam), and Crackers, (Sugar’s granddam). Roxanne and her dog, Sugar, were Margot Woods, the owner of Applewoods, primary demo team since May of 2010. The end result is that in less than 10 months, Roxanne competed with Sugar where he earned his AKC (Companion Dog) title with a 2nd place and two 1st place scores.

Roxanne started as an Apprentice/Instructor at Applewoods in September of 2010.  Within 3 intense years of working at Applewoods full-time, she earned the highest title of Journeyman II Instructor through the Applewoods Dog Training University curriculum. Please see Applewoods University Curriculum for requirements.

Roxanne has taught hundreds of students/dogs through multiple group classes, private classes, and one-on-one tutoring sessions. She continues to instruct students for competition  in the AKC obedience and rally trials as well as entering AKC hunt tests. Additionally, Roxanne successfully trained 10 Board’nTrain dogs while at Applewoods: Toy Poodle, Standard Poodle,  (2) Newfoundlands, Coton de Tulear, Spaniel X, Lab X, West Highland WhiteTerrier, a German Shepherd X, and a Labrador Retriever.

Roxanne took 3 Applewoods daycare dogs and trained them until they could successfully compete in the AKC Obedience Trials and earn obedience titles. One of the older dogs she trained, Diego, went on with its owner to compete in Agility at the highest level – at the Westminster Kennel Club Masters Agility Championship Feb, 8, 2014.  The owner said, “I believe the reason Diego has learned his job so fast is due to his obedience training with Applewoods. He went through the basic course in 2007. Then in December 2011 with Roxanne Lee, he earned his AKC Obedience CD title.”

By 2012, Roxanne and Sugar were starting to excel as a team in public venues.

Some of these venues included being a team for the film, created for the Museum of Maritime Pets, Video: Roxanne and Sugar Museum of Maritime Pets - Oct 2012.

Sugar qualified and competed in Orlando, FL at the AKC Obedience Classic in December 2013.

Roxanne and Sugar were the team responsible for Team Applewoods remarkable success at the All Star Performance Dog 2014 competition. Out of 24 national teams, Team Captain Roxanne and Sugar, came in 2nd in Utility earning them # 2 placement, Picture: All Stars 2014 results

Once the All Star Performance competition was complete, the first chapter of Roxanne’s dog training career at Applewoods closed so the next chapter of Roxanne’s dog training life could began.

She slotted this year, 2015 to complete the four courses required to become a certified Koehler Dog Training Instructor www.koehlerdogtraining.com. Roxanne successfully completed the Koehler Novice Class requirements, March 2015. She began the Koehler Open Class March 2015.  Roxanne is also concurrently pursuing field training with Sugar to earn his SH and MH titles.
