A place to learn how to effectively and fairly communicate with your new puppy. The weeks between 10 weeks old and 16 weeks old are microscopic window of time to layer in a obedience foundation
We tried "Place" again later in the day. Took the legs off the training table to make it easier for her but I think she was still tired and distracted by the tall grass. Mike, will you please cut the grass, what's left of it after the dogs have turned my yard into a mud pile!!
So when she is distracted with someone or something else, THAT is exactly the time to reinforce that your command is to be obeyed.
Good that you remembered to 'Start in a Sit' always. NO "Sit" is required for the "Place" command at all at this stage of the training. Cease the "Come", instead use "Here - Touch - ok" Cease the "Come about", instead use "Let's go".
Almost time to start the Down. Then when that is completed, she is ready for formal obedience.
OK. Got it. No "sit" on the place stool; use "here, touch, and OK," and "let's go" instead of "come about." Thanks again for your input. It doesn't look that hard in the videos but is very hard when actually doing it. We will try again soon. I was working on stand today as I was trying to brush her. That was interesting. Shall I not do that? In what position is it best to do her grooming? She is doing excellent by the way with teeth brushing. She watches Chester so intently and then copies him. We do give a little treat for their teeth after brushing. Hope that's OK. Both look forward to it. Whimzees! Nancy
