Miss Sofie "Place" #1

  1. This is Sofie's first try with the "place" command. My husband needs to cut the grass, so ignore. You may also see our 2 car garage under construction in the videos, as well, also ignore. She has been tired lately. Maybe just a growth spurt or playing with Chester too much. We will take her to the vet this Saturday, 5/8. She will be 17 weeks old Saturday. Do you think she is too young for her Rabies shot?
    Thanks.

  2. Very good effort. Pointers:

    1) Wear dog training shoes, Nancy. The shoes you are wearing are not safe especially in high uncut grass-:)
    2) "Place" use your left hand in front and forward of her right eye as that is the hand signal to send a dog.
    3) Great use of remembering to use your left foot on the Place Stool to help Sophie!
    4) Cease using "Come". Instead, use "Here" and "Touch" and then "Ok"
    5) Cease using "Come about". What is that command?
    6) Perhaps make the Place stool shorter as she is laboring to climb up it because of its height.

She has gotten bigger! And stunningly beautiful. All my dogs had their first Rabies vaccine at 4 months old, 16 weeks.

  3. OK. I usually wear boots but got lazy and through on my daughter's shoes. Interesting about my left hand in front and forward of her right eye. Good to know. OK about "come;" we use that a lot with Chester, and we have had a terrible time teaching Sofie "touch" but mostly I think because I'm the only one trying it. I have asked everyone in my family to do "touch" after she goes to the bathroom but they are LAZY (if you haven't been able to figure out, I'm fed up with the lot of them...going on strike and spending Mother's Day by myself!) I will stress the importance of "touch" with them again. When do I say "OK"? And, the "come about" command is used with Chester when we change direction like that. Trying to use similar commands, but I don't need to with Sofie here. I ended up lowering the place stool since it did look like she was struggling a bit to get onto it.
    Thanks for your feedback!
