10-18-2021 1st puppy lesson with Gayle/Olive

Finally, I got to meet Olive the new puppy. She is a very soft dog, most likely would have tested out, temperament wise, at mainly 4's with the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Temperament Test (PATT). Typically, 4's are eager to please, easy to train only requiring a light, consistent training hand, and make excellent family dogs/Therapy Dogs.

I had a visiting student play a new game called 'Round Robin Recall' game. This is an excellent game to play when there are multiple people living in the home. Always this is done on a ck cord as a command given MUST be obeyed.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PHOTO. Why? Because you can see the reach of Olive's front legs extending to her nose at the same time you can see the extension of her rear leg nearly to the tip of her tail. This is a stride indicative of good conformation and that her front shoulder and rear structure angles are good-excellent. Why does this matter as this puppy will never go into the Breed Ring? It matters because good structure means a healthy dog. VERY important.

EXCELLENT as Olive is doing 'The Walk' and learning to 'read' Gayle's body mechanics.

Finally, we did some 7-10 week old puppy work introducing new surfaces (the ramp, the elevated Training Table and the multiple training surfaces/steps).
Command used? "Let's Go" to begin, the "Step-Hup", the "Sit", then "Step-off", then "Turn" and repeat, repeat, repeat.
I use these commands daily with my adult trained dogs for loading INTO a car or loading OUT of a car or anywhere else.  Mighty handy.

  1. Had to chuckle as when we got Olive onto the Training Table, she saw another dog - herself - in the mirror.

    She is a lovely puppy
