October 2021 Dawn/Nellie get a Lee Pack run and do Balance work + Stack Stand

Nellie is a very smart young puppy and is making excellent progress. She has nearly aged out of the Mannerly Puppy Course so this Lee Pack Run, the Balance work, and the Stack Stand are for a puppy that has advanced past the "Sit" and "Wait" commands

It WAS cold that day for sure, but we had a blast! And lookie there...Nellie HAS learned how to approach a mature dog appropriately because of the prior Pack lessons. She approaches Sugar from the side which is a respectful position for a younger dog to approach an older dog. She no longer approaches Sugar from the front of his face which is confrontational in the dog world.

LOVE these photos!

One of my FAVORITE photos!

Then, time to run with Boaz and Redd for the first time.

See the orange ck cord Nellie is dragging? This allows a puppy freedom of movement as the handler has total control by simply stepping on the ck cord and calling the dog. Also trains a puppy how to step OUT of a line on its body/leg and prepares them for the FOUNDATION Course Longe Line training and the off-leash training.

Redd CLEARLY put Nellie in her place for daring to approach her inappropriately. All puppies need to learn this life lesson from older, mature, well-trained dogs. Why? So the puppy learns to 'read' another dog's communication to stay away.  Especially critical life lesson for puppies that are 7 weeks old to 16-18 weeks old. If the lesson isn't learned then, correctly, the puppy grows up to become inappropriate and disrespectful to other dogs which can get it bitten, cause dog fights, and in some cases, the puppy retaliates and becomes aggressive. ALL of this is avoided by having older, mature well-trained dogs take on the vital education of training a rude puppy with Pack Dynamics.

Then we did some Balance work on metal bleachers.

1st effort by Dawn/Nellie. Here hand is to high on the line, needs to be on collar or just above collar to support learning puppy.

Roxanne demo's HOW to do Balance work with a puppy to train the puppy to have confidence and trust in handler's hands and commands.

Then, Dawn does Balance work and her hand positions stabilize Nellie. Much better.

Finally, a VERY tired Nellie got a smidge of extra work accomplished by doing the Stack Stand.

And Nellie is simply exhausted, you can see the fatigue in her body and in her eyes. Time to quit, call it a good training session, and take her home to do Quiet Time. After a training session like this one, Nellie is ready for Quiet Time.

  1. Nellie got to meet all of the Lee Pack in this training session. She got to practice being appropriate in being with older, mature, well-trained dogs, she ran and ran and ran some more. Then she learned to do Balance work on metal bleachers, did a few Stack Stands, and called it a day.

Nellie was D.O.N.E. Time for her to go home and do Quiet Time which she will gladly do after such an excellent puppy training session.

Good job, Nellie (and Dawn also!)
